Child piercing FAQs

So you think your child is ready to be pierced? We are so excited for you, and happy to help! Here is everything you might need to know to be successful in this beginning piercing journey!

Before we begin, we would like to preface this by saying: Piercings are all about responsibility, maturity, and patience. Some piercings, including kids lobes, can take 6-9 months or more to heal! During this time, they must be cleaned and cared for on a daily basis. This will include lifestyle changes during the healing process. (Healing a piercing is not for every lifestyle!) If your child is not prepared to take the responsibility seriously, it may be smart to wait until they are a little more mature. If your child is in an extracurricular activity that may reduce the chance of a successful heal (i.e. contact sports, water sports, etc.) then it may be smart to wait until the off season for those things to ensure success. It’s okay to wait! Feel free to talk to us about these concerns when you are at your appointment, so we can communicate the reasons why these might be an issue!

In many cultures, getting your ears pierced at a young age is seen as a rite of passage. At Emerald Sun Studios we offer a safer alternative to piercing guns. If you have made it this far, that means that you are aware that piercing with a gun is a highly dangerous practice. They have been known to misfire and get stuck on the ears, they cannot be consistently sterilized properly, the locations in which these are performed are unclean, and the people using these mechanisms generally have no proper training. If you have more questions about the unsafe practices of gun piercings, you can find peer reviewed information at this link:
